The Nocturnal Bandit – One year in.

The Nocturnal Bandit has turned one and we look back on the year.

A few days ago, the Nocturnal Bandit turned one. That’s right, a whole year has passed since this thing went live for the first time.

One year ago, I made you all a promise to show you the car world through my eyes and also keep you entertained.

If I must me honest, I had no idea what I was doing. I wanted to start something of my own, but with no experience running something like this, I braced myself for the challenges that I knew would come my way. All I knew was that I wanted to stick with certain principles throughout, come what may.

Then, things began to fall into place, like the pieces of a puzzle. Before I knew it, I was flying along by the seat of my pants, with my camera in one hand and my laptop in the other. It’s not all been easy, but looking back, it’s been an absolutely blast.

Since that first post, we’ve been introduced to aircooled 911s, received a baptism in 1990s boost, fell in love with Italian coachwork, developed an appreciation for American V8s and learned about the intricacies of automotive detailing.

Hot rodding, vintage motorsport, cars and coffee, bikes and coffee, meets and shows, Open Houses and supercar video shoots, we’ve done it all.

While I’d love to say it’s all about the cars, that just isn’t true. It would be remiss of us not to mention the truly great people we’ve come across through our love for machines. John Benton, Phil McGovern, Fred Faidhi, Ted Gushue, Mark White, Ryan Gates, Assyl Yacine, Alex Martinez, Tony and Jay Sottile, the list goes on. Truly passionate individuals who put their heart and soul into the all-consuming hobby that we’re all part of: les automobiles.

Through them, I’ve been been able to gain a much wider perspective of what I originally understood of the car community. Driving, maintaining, modifying, track days and racing, it’s all part of the fun.

Furthermore, it takes a certain attitude to invite a stranger (me) and give him free rein around their shop. That warm reception has renewed my faith in petrolheads, time and again. The encouragement and support the Bandit has received throughout is incredible and for that I’m very grateful.

For that reason, I’d like to take this opportunity to express my gratitude to all those wonderful folk without whom these stories would not be possible.

As for the Bandit, I still don’t know what I’m doing. All I know is, if I had to turn the clock back a year; I’d do it all over again. So stick around(or don’t) and let’s see where we go. Either way, you know where to find me.

A selection of photographs from the numerous shoots, meets, shows and races we’ve been to over the past year. Enjoy!
